About Murray Eckell
Murray Eckell is a distinguished attorney heading the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practice. He embarked on his legal career in the City of Chester in 1959 after earning his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Prior to this, he completed his undergraduate studies at Dickinson College in 1956.
Initially, Murray practiced law at Snyder and Snyder for three years before briefly venturing into solo practice. In the spring of 1964, he co-founded Eckell & Sparks with Don Sparks, marking the beginning of what would evolve into the current law firm. In the first 15 years of his career, Murray focused on general law practice, with a particular emphasis on commercial and personal injury litigation, and specialized in condemnation trials. Over time, his practice honed in on real estate, commercial law, estate administration, and Housing Authority law. Until 2009, he served as the chief executive officer during the firm's growth and mergers, including with Vadino and Auerbach, and Arthur Levy’s law firm.
Murray's contributions to the legal community are extensive. Notably, he was appointed by Governor Milton Shapp to the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County in March 1977. After his term, he opted not to seek election, returning instead to practice law with his partners.
His dedication extends to various bar associations at local, state, and national levels. He has served as a director and president of the Delaware County Bar Association and chaired several Pennsylvania Bar Association committees. He was a member of the House of Delegates for both the Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations and was elected to the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 1994, serving a three-year term.
