James B. Toohey

James B. Toohey is a partner at MacDonald Illig, where he provides expert legal representation and advice in the areas of real estate and corporate law. His practice encompasses a wide range of transactions, including residential, industrial, commercial, and multi-unit projects. He is adept in handling commercial leasing and both commercial and residential lending matters.

James has significant experience representing developers who engage in acquiring, financing, developing, and operating various projects, such as industrial, office, and retail spaces. Additionally, he assists business owners with diverse legal needs and supports commercial and real estate mortgage lenders in structuring business and real estate loans. His expertise extends to guiding commercial landlords and tenants through lease negotiations.

Before returning to Erie in 2011, James practiced law in Chicago, Illinois, for 11 years. He honed his skills at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd (now K&L Gates) and later at Fuchs & Roselli, Ltd. Upon his return, he has successfully expanded his practice to represent local developers, banks, and companies in their real estate, financing, and corporate endeavors.

James is actively involved in his community, serving on the Catholic Charities Board of Directors, the Alumni Board of Gannon University as Regional Coordinator, the Development Committee of the Neighborhood Art House, and the Serra Club of Erie Board of Directors.
