Mr. Thomas H. O'Brien

After earning his law degree, Thomas H. O'Brien began his legal career as an associate at a small firm in Providence. There, he effectively handled a diverse range of cases, including Landlord & Tenant evictions, divorce proceedings, zoning issues, and DEM appeals.

O'Brien dedicated 16 years to the Rhode Island Department of Attorney General as a criminal prosecutor. In his role as a Special Assistant Attorney General, he conducted bail hearings and probation/bail violation hearings in Rhode Island District Courts. He also managed numerous DUI and breathalyzer refusal cases before advancing to Superior Court jury trials.

His extensive felony trial experience spans over 30 jury trials, with notable success in serious cases such as murder, sexual assault, burglary, robbery, and narcotics delivery. Thomas was among the few prosecutors who successfully secured convictions in multiple life without parole murder cases.

Throughout his 16-year tenure in the criminal justice system, O'Brien handled nearly every felony charge under Rhode Island law, representing the state in courtrooms across Rhode Island.
