About Mariam Lavoie
With a career spanning nearly thirty years, Mariam Alexanian Lavoie has been a committed advocate for justice as a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. Born in Bloomington, Indiana, she spent her early years in Livermore, California, before moving to Mexico City. There, she completed her high school education at the all-Spanish speaking Instituto TecnolĂłgico de Monterrey in 1980.
At sixteen, she attended Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, during her father's sabbatical. In 1981, she relocated to Rhode Island to study at the University of Rhode Island, graduating with highest distinction in 1985. Her lifelong passion for law was evident from an early age, driven by a desire to ensure everyone receives fair legal representation.
During her law studies, she actively engaged with the legal community, representing injured workers and U.S. residency applicants under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. She earned her law degree, graduating cum laude from Suffolk University School of Law in 1990.
Since joining the Rhode Island Bar in 1990, Attorney Lavoie has tirelessly advocated for injured and disabled clients, representing hundreds before Administrative Law Judges across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. She is an active member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives and the RI Association for Justice. Additionally, she is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and the RI District Court.
