About Matthew Modelski
Matthew Modelski was born and raised near Detroit, Michigan, where he developed a strong passion for hockey, playing as an elite youth goaltender. His talent led him to play junior hockey in Chicago, Illinois, before being recruited to the Division-I hockey team at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. At Yale, Matthew achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and was a four-year Varsity letterman.
After a brief stint in professional hockey, Matthew transitioned to the financial sector, joining a leading wealth management firm as a financial analyst. His skills quickly earned him a promotion to Senior Strategy Analyst, where he collaborated with the Investment Committee to enhance investment strategies across client portfolios. He also worked closely with tax, trust, and estate planning teams to provide comprehensive client services.
Driven by his aspiration to practice law, Matthew attended Wayne State University Law School. During his studies, he actively participated in the Legal Advocacy for People with Cancer Clinic, a program offering free legal assistance to low-income cancer patients in Detroit. This experience honed his skills in handling cases related to insurance, housing, employment benefits, life planning, and public benefits.
Upon completing his law degree, Matthew relocated to Bluffton with his wife, Lauren. He successfully passed the South Carolina Bar Exam on his first attempt and was admitted to practice law in the state in 2018. Matthew and Lauren enjoy golfing together in their free time.
