About Ben Akery
Growing up, Benjamin W. Akery experienced life in multiple states due to his father's career in industrial safety, which helped him adapt to diverse situations—a skill he brings to his legal practice. Since joining the Steinberg Law Firm in 2008, Ben has dedicated himself to advocating for individuals in personal injury, workers’ compensation, and social security disability law. He became a partner at the firm in 2016, continuing the firm's legacy of representing those against larger forces.
Ben completed his undergraduate studies at the College of Charleston, where he was part of the Communications Honor Society and a scholarship athlete in basketball and baseball. He earned his law degree from Emory University School of Law in 2008, where he contributed as a staff attorney at the Indigent Criminal Defense Clinic in Georgia and received the Morton H. Aronson Franchise Law Award.
Admitted to the South Carolina Bar, Ben is also a member of the Charleston County Bar and Berkeley County Bar, where he has served as president of the young lawyers division and on the board of directors. Additionally, he is on the board of governors for the South Carolina Association for Justice and is an active member of the Injured Workers Advocates.
Ben's professional excellence has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America for 2016, 2017, and 2018. He was also named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2017 and recognized by The National Trial Lawyers Association as one of South Carolina's Top 40 Attorneys Under 40.
Beyond his legal career, Ben is deeply involved in his community. He actively participates in Crosstowne Christian Church and serves as chair of the board of directors for Healing Farms. He resides in West Ashley with his wife Apryl and their two daughters.
