About Mr. Timothy Clay Kulp
Timothy Kulp, born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, is a seasoned attorney with profound expertise in criminal defense. He completed his education at the University of South Carolina and its School of Law, where he gained practical experience clerking for the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Following his graduation, Mr. Kulp served as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working in the Miami division on cases involving hijacking, extortion, and bank robbery.
In 1980, Mr. Kulp relocated to Charleston, where he took on the role of an assistant solicitor with the Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office. He subsequently served as the Charleston City Prosecutor for three years and was the Isle of Palms Municipal Judge during Hurricane Hugo. A key figure in the legal community, Mr. Kulp was instrumental in the formation of the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is a founding member of the National College for DUI Defense.
Mr. Kulp has been involved in five death penalty cases and is Board Certified in Criminal Trial Advocacy by the National Bureau of Legal Specialty Certification since 1999. He has represented clients in over 100 federal criminal cases across various jurisdictions, including federal courts in Charleston, WV; Beaumont, Texas; and Atlanta, Georgia.

His appellate work includes appearances before the SC Court of Appeals, the SC Supreme Court, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
