Dirk Julius Derrick

Dirk Julius Derrick established Derrick Law Firm Injury Lawyers in 1991 after leaving a partnership. For two decades, he managed his firm like many small law practices, but faced challenges with the leverage of the insurance industry, which hindered client satisfaction in claim value, speed, and service.

In 2015, Dirk conducted a significant focus group for a major case, gaining invaluable insights and video footage of juror deliberations. Sharing this footage with the opposing party, he successfully turned the tables on the typical leverage dynamics of time, money, uncertainty, and knowledge, benefiting his clients.

To extend these advantages to all clients, Dirk developed a unique business model and established in-house courtrooms to assess case truths, presentation strategies, and juror reactions. Since then, the firm has grown from Dirk and one associate to 25 attorneys and over 60 staff members, expanding from a single location to 10 offices across South Carolina. In-house courtrooms are operational in Myrtle Beach, Conway, and North Charleston, with additional facilities under construction in Greenville and Columbia.

As of February 2025, Dirk has gathered personal data from 19,000 citizens and analyzed case decisions from over 10,000 participants. Collaborating with data scientists, he has created a proprietary database to interpret this data, partnering with attorneys statewide and beyond to uncover case truths.

Dirk has also launched “The Appraisers Podcast,” a private podcast for plaintiff lawyers, where he shares insights from focus groups and collective data analysis.
