Leonard Robert Grefseng, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) on a football scholarship, graduating cum laude in 1979. During his time there, he earned a spot on the "Academic All South Eastern Conference" honor roll in 1978. Continuing his education at Ole Miss, he graduated from law school in the top third of his class in May 1982.
Following law school, Mr. Grefseng served as a law clerk for Judge Roy Noble Lee of the Mississippi Supreme Court. He was admitted to the Tennessee bar in 1984, after which he relocated to Columbia, Maury County, where he has been actively practicing law.
Mr. Grefseng is a member and past President of the Maury County Bar Association and also belongs to the Tennessee Bar Association. He is married to Melinda Grefseng, formerly known as Melinda F. Bunch, and they have a son named Samuel.
In addition to his legal career, Mr. Grefseng is engaged in various civic activities. He has served as the past President of the Maury County Kiwanis Club, a former Elder of Zion Presbyterian Church (PCA), and a former Director and past Chairman of the Board of Zion Christian Academy.
