Hugh Emerson Coleman

Hugh Emerson Coleman brings a wealth of experience to his legal practice, having held positions as a city attorney, municipal prosecutor, assistant county attorney, and assistant district attorney. In these roles, he has managed a wide array of litigation, including civil rights, employment lawsuits, tort, and negligence claims.

In his private practice, Hugh represents both individuals and businesses in employment law issues such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, age and sex discrimination, worker's compensation retaliation, and unemployment disputes. He is adept at drafting human resources policies, employment agreements, severance agreements, non-compete agreements, and handling corporate formations and real estate transactions.

A dedicated member of the legal community, Hugh is a Past President of the Denton County Bar Association and the Denton County Young Lawyers Association. He played a key role in establishing the Denton County Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (DCAP), which offers pro bono and low-cost mediation services.

Hugh is committed to public service, having served as the Denton County Commissioner for Precinct #1 from 2009 to 2020. Active in the Denton community, he volunteers frequently and is a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
