About Lakshmi Nayar
Lakshmi Nayar was born in 1975 in Kerala, India, and relocated with her family to Perth, Western Australia, at age six. She moved to Dallas in 1998. Lakshmi graduated from Murdoch University in 1997, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and a Bachelor of Laws with Honors. She furthered her legal education with a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan in 1999.
Lakshmi's passion for U.S. immigration law is deeply rooted in her personal journey as an immigrant. After studying immigration law at the University of Michigan, she began her career in 2000 by volunteering with local non-profits that support low-income immigrants. In 2001, she joined a small immigration firm in Dallas, contributing to its growth into one of Texas's largest full-service immigration practices.
Before establishing her own law practice, Lakshmi served as the managing attorney at this firm. Throughout her career, she has adeptly handled a diverse range of immigration and nationality issues. Her extensive experience includes deportation defense (such as cancellation of removal, waivers for crimes, and bond hearings), family-based immigration (adjustment of status and consular processing), and various waivers (for fraud, crimes, health-related issues, and prior deportations).
Lakshmi is also proficient in citizenship and naturalization, nonimmigrant visas, asylum, NACARA, and humanitarian relief, including temporary protected status and parole. She has a particular interest in aiding immigrant survivors of domestic violence and other crimes to secure legal status in the U.S.
Admitted to practice in New York and the Northern District Court of Texas, Lakshmi is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the National Immigration Project. She is fluent in Malayalam, enhancing her ability to serve a diverse clientele.
