John Schmude

John Schmude, a Board Certified attorney by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in family law, brings extensive experience from his tenure as the Presiding Judge of the 247th Family District Court of Harris County, Texas. During his time on the bench, he managed more than 13,000 cases across all family law areas, including complex divorce, custody actions, adoptions, paternity suits, and enforcements. He presided over 400 contested family law bench trials, numerous jury trials, and thousands of hearings.

Before his judicial appointment, Schmude was the President of the Schmude Law Firm, where he focused on family and business law, handling complex divorce cases, custody suits, and more. Additionally, he served as Vice President at a national bank and credit union consulting firm in Houston, advising financial institutions with assets exceeding a billion dollars.

In 2017-2018, Schmude participated in a Workgroup for the Judicial Commission for Children, Youth and Families at the request of the Texas Governor's Office. This commission was established by the Texas Supreme Court in 2007. In 2016, he received the Family Protector Award from the Texas Home School Coalition.
