Jeffrey Liebenguth

Jeffrey Liebenguth is a distinguished attorney with a focus on defending military personnel in a wide range of legal matters, including court-martials, NJP, administrative hearings, and criminal appeals. His expertise covers serious allegations such as rape, sexual assault, fraud, drug offenses, and violent crimes, among other military offenses. Mr. Liebenguth brings a wealth of experience as a retired Marine Corps military attorney and former Coast Guardsman. He holds degrees from Amherst College, Emory University School of Law, and a Master’s Degree from Marine Corps University Resident Command & Staff College. Notably, he deployed with 2d Battalion, 3d Marines to Haditha, Iraq, in 2006-2007, a deployment highlighted in the book 'The Warriors of Anbar.' He has also served at the Pentagon and taught military law at the United States Naval Academy.

Since starting his legal career in 2003, Mr. Liebenguth has handled high-profile military criminal cases from multiple perspectives, including defense counsel, appellate defense counsel, prosecutor, and Special Assistant United States Attorney. His appellate work is particularly notable, having successfully petitioned for oral arguments in 17 cases before the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals. This achievement earned him the “Silver C.A.A.F. Tongue” award for arguing more cases than any other military appellate defense counsel.

Mr. Liebenguth has extensive litigation experience in cases involving accusations of murder, attempted murder, sexual assault, child endangerment, drug violations, and other UCMJ offenses. He is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and all military courts.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Liebenguth has been an invited speaker at military criminal-law conferences in California and Washington, D.C., sharing his insights and expertise with peers and colleagues.
