Matthew Dane Powell

Matthew Dane Powell is a highly experienced litigator dedicated to client protection throughout his career. Currently, he is a partner at Payne, Powell, Truitt & Chandler in Lubbock, Texas. Previously, he served as the elected Criminal District Attorney for Lubbock County, where he passionately represented victims who couldn't speak for themselves.

During his tenure as District Attorney, Matt conducted over 300 jury trials, including around 60 murder cases and 17 capital murder cases, maintaining a flawless record in felony cases. He also served as the chief counsel for Lubbock County, overseeing civil lawsuits, contracts, and other legal issues. His high-profile cases have been featured on TV shows like NBC Dateline, ABC 20/20, and 48 Hours.

Matt's dedication to protecting clients has earned him numerous accolades, including The State Bar of Texas Prosecutor of the Year, The Association Against Sexual Assaults' Harry Cottle Justice Award, and the MADD Prosecutor of the Year.

Beyond his legal practice, Matt is committed to community service, volunteering with organizations such as the Lubbock Area United Way and the Children's Advocacy Center.
