Mark Underwood

Mark Underwood, the owner of Underwood Law Office, Inc., is dedicated to advocating for victims of severe injuries. His notable cases include the 2010 Upper Big Branch coal mine explosion, where he represented 11 miners who suffered brain injuries, and the 2013 West TX Fertilizer Plant Explosion, where he advocated for 185 victims. In 2014, he was involved in the environmental class action following the Freedom Industries MCHM chemical spill, representing six of 14 class representatives. He also worked on the 2018 ARKEMA Chemical Plant Explosion case.

Mark has also taken on cases involving unique circumstances, such as clients injured by static electricity at gas stations, a tragic car accident involving a misplaced fire hydrant, and incidents resulting in paralysis from shootings and logging accidents. One of his cases, a $40 ERISA matter, gained international attention.

His expertise has been recognized on platforms like Fox & Friends, and his medical malpractice case was highlighted on Oprah. Mark is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of West Virginia, Texas, California, and Washington, D.C.

In 1996, Mark was elected to the West Virginia State Legislature at the age of 32. His professional achievements have been acknowledged by Super Lawyers, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World.

Mark is a graduate of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (1992), the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College (2001), and the American Association of Justice’s Ultimate Advocacy College (2002, 2013).
