Nelson Abbott

Nelson Abbott, born in Escondido, California, on January 30, 1966, is a seasoned attorney with a robust legal background. He was admitted to the bar in 1994 and practices in Utah and the U.S. District Court, District of Utah.

He earned his B.A. in Economics in 1989, followed by an M.B.A. and a J.D., cum laude, in 1993, all from Brigham Young University. During his time at university, he contributed as an author and editor for the Brigham Young University Journal of Public Law.

Mr. Abbott has co-authored several works, including "How to Form a Corporation in any State" and "The Complete Asset Protection Plan," both published in 1990. He also co-authored an article on electronic monitoring systems in the Journal of Systems Management in 1993 and authored a piece on double jeopardy in civil actions in the Brigham Young University Journal of Public Law in 1992.

His professional activities include serving as part-time faculty at Brigham Young University and participating in the Utah State Bar's Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee from 1999 to 2001 and the Ethics Advisory Opinion Committee from 2001 to 2009. He is also involved with the Utah Trial Lawyers Association and The American Association for Justice. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors for the BYU Management Society.

Mr. Abbott's reported cases include N.M. v. Safeco, McKeon v. Crump, State v. Villalobos, State v. Kohl, and Russ v. Woodside Homes, Inc. He is fluent in French, adding an international dimension to his legal practice.
