Carolyn Grimes

Carolyn Grimes is a distinguished partner at the firm, focusing her practice on family law, which includes divorce, spousal support, child custody, child support, equitable distribution, retirement issues, and prenuptial agreements. She is well-versed in the legal landscape of Northern Virginia, appearing in all Circuit and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts, and has successfully argued before the Court of Appeals.

Ms. Grimes is recognized for her expertise and has shared her knowledge through lectures on various family law topics, such as custody and retirement issues, including those pertinent to military, federal, civilian, and Foreign Service divorces and retirements within the Commonwealth. Embracing alternative dispute resolution, she practices collaborative law and is also a certified mediator.

Her professional excellence has been acknowledged with accolades such as being named one of the Best Lawyers in America and a Super Lawyer for multiple years. She holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell and was recognized as a Top Attorney by Washingtonian Magazine in 2015.

Beyond her practice, Ms. Grimes is dedicated to community service. She was President of the Board of Directors for Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) in 2009 and 2006, and has long been involved with the organization, contributing extensive pro bono work. As a Past President of the Alexandria Bar Association, she has co-chaired the Pro Bono and Community Service Committee and led the “Beat the Odds” Program, supporting scholarships for resilient youths. Additionally, she participated in the American Bar Association's initiative to provide legal aid to victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks.

Ms. Grimes has also been an active member of the Virginia State Bar, serving on the Bar Council and as a panel chair for the Virginia State Bar Fee Dispute Program.
