Yancey Ellis

Yancey Ellis serves as the managing partner at Carmichael Ellis & Brock, PLLC, where he plays a crucial role in advocating for indigent clients and upholding constitutional rights. As the lead attorney for military service members and veterans, Yancey provides specialized legal assistance tailored to their unique needs. He joined the firm following his tenure at the highly regarded Public Defender's Office in Alexandria.

During his time at the Alexandria Public Defender's Office, Yancey represented nearly two thousand clients facing a wide range of criminal charges, including robbery, malicious wounding, and drug-related offenses. His defense work also covered sexual assault, larceny, embezzlement, and various traffic violations such as DWI and DUI. Yancey is committed to continuing the fight for justice, having appealed cases to both the Court of Appeals of Virginia and the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Before his role in Alexandria, Yancey served as an attorney in the U.S. Marine Corps. There, he functioned as a prosecutor, law of war advisor, and predominantly as a military public defender. He defended hundreds of Marines and Sailors, achieving favorable outcomes and several full acquittals on charges such as drug distribution and aggravated assault.

In recognition of his exceptional service, Yancey was honored as the U.S. Marine Corps Defense Counsel of the Year for the Western United States in 2009. Though he left active duty in 2010, Yancey remains a dedicated member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
