Alexander Herbert Butterman

Alexander Herbert Butterman has extensive expertise in trademark prosecution and practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as international trademark offices through a robust network of foreign associates. His legal career, which began in 1995, involves advising a diverse range of businesses across various industries. He provides comprehensive services such as assessing mark availability, establishing and enforcing trademark rights, and handling IP disputes. Alex is also proficient in managing internet domain name IP issues, anti-counterfeiting, copyright prosecution, IP licensing, and transactional matters, along with conducting intellectual property research and due diligence.

In his role as an Attorney Advisor at the USPTO's Law Office 106, Alex examined thousands of trademark applications over three years. His focus areas included cosmetics, toiletries, and cleaning preparations, publications, office supplies, toys, sporting goods, and service mark applications for various services. He also defended registration refusals before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Alex is an active member of the International Trademark Association, serving on four committees over twelve years, and is also involved with the American Intellectual Property Law Association's trademark committee.
