Mitchell Wells

Mitchell M. Wells is an accomplished attorney serving clients in Petersburg, Virginia. He is authorized to practice in all state and federal courts across Virginia, focusing on criminal law, DUI, and reckless driving traffic violations. Over his career, he has successfully defended thousands of cases.

Before joining private practice, Mr. Wells held the position of Assistant Attorney General in the Health Care Fraud section of the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia. In this role, he supervised numerous fraud investigations and litigated Virginia false claim cases in federal court under the Federal False Claims Act and the Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayers Act.

Prior to his legal career, Mr. Wells served as a Virginia State Trooper for eight years. During this time, he investigated thousands of criminal, drug, DUI, traffic, and accident cases, earning an "exceptional" rating from the Virginia State Police and receiving 23 commendations for his outstanding service.

Mr. Wells was featured on the television show "Real Stories of the Highway Patrol." He holds certifications from the Virginia Department of Forensic Science as a Breath Test Operator, and from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as a Crime Prevention Specialist, General Instructor, R.A.D.A.R. operator, V.A.S.C.A.R. operator, and for administering NHTSA standardized field sobriety tests. While attending law school, he worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Robert E. Payne, Judge, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia.
