Babak Akhlaghi

Babak Akhlaghi, a registered patent attorney, serves as the Managing Director of NovoTech Patent Firm in Washington, D.C., where he provides extensive patent services to both domestic and international clients. He is the co-author of the Patent Applications Handbook, an annually updated resource published by West Publications. Additionally, Babak is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland, focusing on the legal aspects of entrepreneurship, particularly in intellectual property and patents.

His practice areas include patent preparation and prosecution in electrical engineering and computer science, covering technologies such as AI, machine learning, medical devices, semiconductors, and mobile applications. Babak also offers guidance on licensing, validity, enforceability, infringement, and patent reexaminations.

Earlier, he was a Partner at McDermott Will & Emery and an Associate at Fish & Richardson, both in Washington, D.C. Babak also served as in-house counsel at Panasonic Corporation in Osaka, Japan, and provided pro bono legal support at the Landlord-Tenant Resource Center in D.C. His technical expertise includes experience as a radio frequency technician.

Babak graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland, where he was top of his class. During law school, he contributed as an article editor for the Houston Business & Tax Law Journal. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, D.C., and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
