Janet L Smith

Janet L. Smith offers her expertise as an elder mediator through her practice, Janet L. Smith Mediation Services, in Edmonds, Washington. She specializes in resolving disputes related to elder law, adult guardianship, TEDRA matters, estate and trust administration, and the protection of vulnerable adults.

In 2005, Janet founded Northwest Elder Law Group PLLC, after co-founding Elder Care Solutions, Inc., which provided geriatric care management and guardianship services. Her career as a practicing attorney, geriatric care manager, and certified professional guardian spans over three decades. In 2021, Janet retired from active legal practice to concentrate on elder mediation and facilitation.

Janet holds a bachelor's degree from Pomona College, a law degree from the University of Washington School of Law, and a Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Washington. Her training includes the Professional Mediation Skills Training Program at the University of Washington School of Law and participation in Northwest Dispute Resolution Conferences.

She is an active member of the Washington State Bar Association Elder Law Section and Alternate Dispute Resolution Section, as well as the King County Bar Association Guardianship and Elder Law Section. Janet frequently provides training in elder mediation and regularly speaks on elder law alternative dispute resolution.
