Ian completed his Bachelor’s Degree in History in 2003 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, earning the Harold W. Carey Prize and the Simon & Satenig Ermonian Scholarship for his outstanding performance in history.
Upon completing his undergraduate studies, Ian returned to Wyoming to volunteer as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming. He then pursued his legal education at the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall). During law school, Ian externed for Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker, taught Street Law at Alameda County Juvenile Hall, and was actively involved in several student organizations including the Youth and Education Law Society and the Boalt Hall Criminal Law Association. He also gained practical experience as a clinical student at the East Bay Community Law Center and as a summer law clerk at the National Center for Youth Law and Cotchett, Pitre, Simon & McCarthy.
In 2012, Ian was recognized as one of the top 40 trial lawyers under the age of 40, highlighting his early career accomplishments and dedication to the legal profession.
