Daniel Shawn Pickens

Daniel Shawn Pickens, an attorney in Athens, Alabama, has a well-rounded professional background. Born and raised in Sheffield, Alabama, he began his education at Calhoun Community College. He later earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of West Alabama in 2019, where he was honored as the University Scholar in Finance.

Mr. Pickens pursued his legal education at the Birmingham School of Law, graduating in December 2022. During his time there, he earned the Outstanding 1L award and was inducted into the Judge Hugh Locke Honor Society. He was also recognized as a “BSL Star” and consistently made the Dean’s List, achieving top grades in courses such as Torts I, Contracts I, and Civil Procedure I.

Before embarking on his legal career, Mr. Pickens gained valuable experience as a firefighter, including over two years with the City of Madison. During this period, he acquired numerous technical certifications and advanced to the level of EMT.

Prior to joining Thigpen, Engelthaler, Pipkins & Pickens, Inc., he served as the women's golf coach at Calhoun Community College for over a year and a half. Under his leadership, the team earned several trophies and was recognized as the ACCC Academic Team of the Year.

Outside of his professional life, Daniel enjoys playing golf, hiking, and reading.
