Richard J Coffee

Richard J. Coffee brings more than 35 years of legal expertise to his clients in Belleville, Illinois. His practice encompasses business, real estate, insurance, education, juvenile court, probate, trusts, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and family law. Richard has a strong track record in family law, representing current and retired military personnel, handling state jurisdictional issues for relocating families, and managing government or private retirement valuation and division cases, as well as public education matters.

Before establishing his private practice in southwestern Illinois 16 years ago, Richard served as counsel to the Illinois State Board of Education and provided legal counsel to Illinois public universities. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Missouri and is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. District Courts for Northern, Central, and Southern Illinois.

Richard earned his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law and holds a degree in broadcasting from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He is an active member of the Chicago Bar Association and The Missouri Bar, and has served as the former President of the Monroe County Bar Association and as the former chair of the Illinois State Bar Association Education Law Section Council. Additionally, he has judged the National Health Law Moot Court Competition at Southern Illinois University School of Law and is recognized in Marquis Who’s Who publications.
