Marcia Gerber Cotler

Marcia Gerber Cotler, the Principal and Founder of Cotler Law LLC, earned her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center, graduating cum laude in 1989. She furthered her expertise with mediation certifications from the Center for Conflict Resolution in 2002 and DePaul University College of Law in 2004.

Ms. Cotler has extensive experience litigating and settling cases for clients ranging from individuals to multi-national corporations. She is admitted to practice in the state courts of Cook, Lake, and DuPage County, Illinois, as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Human Rights Commission, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Additionally, she serves as an arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois, when requested.

In her academic role, Ms. Cotler has taught legal writing as an adjunct faculty member at DePaul University College of Law. She also provides training on Sexual Harassment Prevention in the Workplace to Fortune 500 companies and non-profits. Her expertise in employment law makes her a sought-after speaker at continuing litigation education seminars. Her scholarly contributions include a chapter on the “Employment-At-Will Doctrine” for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE).

Previously, Ms. Cotler was a board member of the Chicago Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution, highlighting her commitment to advancing the field of conflict resolution.
