Charles Ian Coant

Charles Ian Coant brings extensive legal expertise to Bridgeton, New Jersey, with a practice spanning several jurisdictions. He was admitted to the bar in 1988 in Pennsylvania and in 1989 in New Jersey. His credentials extend to the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals, Third Circuit. In 1993, he was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Charles earned his J.D. from the Temple University Beasley School of Law in 1988, following a B.A. with honors from the University of Chicago in 1985. His professional affiliations include the Cumberland County Bar Association, where he served as Trustee from 2015 to 2016, Secretary of the Executive Board from 2016 to 2017, and currently holds the position of Treasurer. He is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, participating in the Appellate and Workers Compensation Sections, as well as the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations.

A member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Justice James H. Coleman, Jr. American Inns of Court, Charles has been recognized in the Marquis Who’s Who of American Law. South Jersey Magazine highlighted him for his work in Workers Compensation Law representing petitioners in 2016 and 2017.

Charles has been involved in notable cases, including State v. Apprendi, which was affirmed by the New Jersey Supreme Court, and Apprendi v. New Jersey, a significant U.S. Supreme Court decision.
