About Michael Kaplen
Michael V. Kaplen is a distinguished attorney with a focus on traumatic brain injury law. He currently lectures at The George Washington University Law School, offering the only course in the United States dedicated to this area of law. Michael is actively involved in the New York State Traumatic Brain Injury Services Coordinating Council, where he served as chair from 2007 to 2013 and from 2019 to 2021. As the president of the American Academy of Brain Injury Attorneys, he plays a significant role in advancing the field.
Michael holds board certifications as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and in medical malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. His contributions to the field were recognized when he participated in the 2014 White House Healthy Kids & Safe Sports Concussion Summit. In addition, he has held the position of Vice President at the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers and remains a board member.
He is a member of the Board of Governors for the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys and previously served on the Board of Directors for the Melvin M. Belli Society. Michael is a three-term past president of the Brain Injury Association of New York State and has chaired the American Association for Justice's Automobile, Highway and Premise Liability Section and Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group. He also co-chaired the Tort Section of the New York County Lawyer’s Association and served on the Board of Directors of Public Justice.
Recognized as a New York Super Lawyer for 12 consecutive years, Michael is also listed among the top 100 trial lawyers in New York State by the American Association of Trial Lawyers. His legal practice is dedicated to personal injury, particularly representing clients with traumatic brain injuries due to negligence and medical malpractice across the United States.
