Carey F. Kalmowitz

Carey F. Kalmowitz is a founding partner of The Health Law Partners, P.C. He graduated from New York University Law School in 1994, following his undergraduate degree from Vassar College in 1989. Admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1994, Mr. Kalmowitz focuses on healthcare law, particularly the corporate and financial aspects. His expertise includes structuring revenue-enhancing transactions among healthcare providers, handling certificate of need, compliance investigations, and addressing corporate fraud and abuse, including Stark Law and third-party payment issues.

Mr. Kalmowitz provides counsel to physicians and physician groups on integration strategies, ancillary services, and various agreements such as employment, recruitment, shareholder, buy-ins, and buy-outs. He also negotiates joint ventures and hospital relationships. His advisory services extend to healthcare providers on compliance matters, including the Stark Law, Anti-kickback Statute, and reimbursement regulations.

He has served as general counsel for a major regional healthcare system, gaining extensive experience with hospital legal issues. Mr. Kalmowitz has assisted numerous providers with certificate of need projects, including replacement hospitals and transactions involving CT, MRI, and ASC facilities. He advises long-term care facilities on compliance and business matters and represents a diverse range of healthcare providers, including ambulatory surgery centers and durable medical equipment suppliers, on various transactional issues.

A member of the State Bar of Michigan, Mr. Kalmowitz is also affiliated with the Michigan Society of Hospital Attorneys, the American Health Lawyer's Association, and the American Bar Association. He has contributed several articles to the healthcare field.
