About Mark Welter
Mark J. Welter has dedicated his entire life and career to South Dakota. Born and raised in Yankton, he pursued his education at the University of South Dakota, earning both his business and law degrees. His legal journey began as a law clerk for John B. Jones, U.S. District Judge for the District of South Dakota, Southern Division.
Following his clerkship, Mark spent 15 years at Woods, Fuller, Schultz & Smith P.C. in Sioux Falls. There, he honed his skills as an insurance defense personal injury trial lawyer and worker's compensation lawyer, defending clients against claims for damages.
Since 2004, Mark has been a partner at Wilka, Welter & Ash, LLP, where he focuses on helping personal injury and work injury victims secure compensation from responsible parties. With over three decades of trial experience, Mark has litigated more than 1,000 damages claims and managed numerous trials and appeals.
Mark is an active member of the State Bar of South Dakota, the South Dakota State Bar Negligence and Tort Law committee, and the Minnehaha County Bar Association. His admission to practice extends to the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals (8th Circuit), the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and the U.S. District Court (District of South Dakota).
