Billy Don Hicks Jr. began his legal career after graduating from the Texas Tech School of Law in 1997. Initially, he opened the Law Office of Bill D. Hicks near Austin, but soon transitioned to El Paso, Texas in 1998, joining the 34th Judicial District Attorney's Office.
For 12 1/2 years, Judge Hicks served El Paso, Hudspeth, and Culberson Counties as an Assistant District Attorney. Between 2003 and 2008, he was cross-designated as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, handling cases from Class C misdemeanors to Capital Murders.
In 2010, a vacancy in the State District Court of El Paso County led to his appointment as Judge of the 243rd State District Court. He served in this capacity until the end of 2012, earning high approval ratings from the El Paso Bar Association.
After his judicial tenure, former Judge Hicks reopened the Law Office of Bill D. Hicks P.C., which he managed until late 2022. He was then appointed District Attorney, where he reorganized the office to enhance community pride. On January 1, 2023, he reopened The Law Offices of Bill Hicks, focusing on client advocacy and justice.
