Jonathan P. McHugh

Jonathan P. McHugh serves as a lead senior associate attorney at Livesay & Myers, P.C., where he focuses exclusively on family law. Based in the Manassas office, he represents clients across Manassas and Prince William County. His expertise spans a wide range of family law issues, including custody, support, separation, and high asset divorce cases.

Mr. McHugh is recognized as a leading military divorce lawyer within the firm, with extensive knowledge of military retirement, disability pay, and survivor benefits. He is also well-versed in the division of federal retirement benefits, such as the FERS Basic Benefit Plan and TSP. Additionally, he authored the publication "Federal Retirement Division in Virginia Divorce."

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. McHugh relocated to Northern Virginia in 2005 after earning his degree cum laude from Wake Forest University. He initially worked for 3 ½ years as a consultant in Washington, D.C., serving federal government clients, including the Department of Defense and the U.S. Army.

He transitioned to law, attending the Catholic University Columbus School of Law, and graduated in 2011. Mr. McHugh began his legal career in private practice at a Vienna, Virginia law firm before joining Livesay & Myers, P.C. as an associate in 2014.

Mr. McHugh has been recognized by his peers, being included in the 2024–2026 editions of The Best Lawyers in America for Family Law. Previously, he was featured in the 2021 edition of Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for his family law work. Jonathan McHugh resides with his wife and two daughters in Northern Virginia.
