Edmund R. Michie brings more than three decades of legal expertise, rooted in a family legacy dating back to the early 1800s in Central Virginia. His great-grandfather and his brother founded The Michie Company, a renowned publisher of law books in Charlottesville, Virginia. Since January 1996, Edmund has operated his own law firm. Prior to this, he was with Michie, Hamlett, Lowry, Rassmussen & Tweel from November 1989 to December 1995, a firm with approximately 18 attorneys, where he managed complex personal injury, workers' compensation, criminal, and traffic cases. From November 1987 to November 1989, Edmund represented UVA students in legal matters, including criminal and DUI cases, through Student Legal Services at UVA. He also worked at the National Legal Research Group from January 1986 to November 1987, contributing to legal research and writing for attorneys nationwide.

Edmund graduated from Charlottesville Public Schools (CHS Class of 1978) and earned his BA cum laude in Political Science and Economics from Denison University in 1982. He received his JD from the TC Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1985.

Edmund served on the Charlottesville School Board from July 2004 to January 2018, chairing it from 2008 to 2010 and again in 2012. He chaired the CATEC Board in 2008 and 2011, and was active with the Piedmont Housing Alliance from 1997 to 2014.
