Brian Nelson

Brian C. Nelson, a dedicated criminal defense attorney, began his academic journey at Indiana University, earning his Bachelor degree in 2012. He pursued his legal education there, obtaining his Juris Doctorate in 2016. During law school, he honed his skills in trial advocacy and criminal defense, actively participating in related courses and clinics. In his second year, he gained practical experience interning at the Marion County Prosecutors Office before clerking for a private criminal defense attorney. His commitment was further demonstrated by his involvement on the board of his legal fraternity and his participation in the trial advocacy team.

Upon graduation, Mr. Nelson continued his clerkship with the same defense attorney, successfully passing the Indiana Bar exam on his first attempt. In June 2020, Mr. Nelson returned to Wisconsin, joining the Milwaukee Trial Division as a public defender. His impact was immediate, as he challenged pandemic-era preliminary hearing procedures, leading to the dismissal of numerous cases and prompting procedural changes by the Milwaukee District Attorney's office.
