About Barry G Porter
Barry G. Porter is a founding partner of Burgess & Porter Law, LLC, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With more than 22 years of experience, Mr. Porter has established himself as a seasoned criminal defense litigator. He has served as lead counsel in over 90 full jury trials and has argued more than 400 substantive motions, achieving a trial success rate exceeding 85 percent.
From 2004 to 2010, Mr. Porter held the position of supervising attorney at the New Mexico Public Defender Department. He then advanced to become the Training Director from 2010 to 2014, where he oversaw the criminal defense and trial training for over 250 lawyers.
Mr. Porter's contributions to criminal defense have earned him numerous awards, including the Lawyer Mentor and Training Award and the Outstanding Contributions to Criminal Justice Award. Since 2011, he has been a faculty member for the New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Trial Skills College.
Before his tenure in New Mexico, Mr. Porter gained valuable experience in Hawaii. He spent six years with the Public Defender office in Honolulu, managing appeals, juvenile cases, and both misdemeanor and felony cases. From 2000 to 2004, he supervised the Maui County Public Defender office and was honored as Manager of the Year in 2003 by the Hawaii Public Defender office.
