About Robert Louis Wegman
Robert Louis Wegman began his educational journey at Atlantic Christian College, graduating in 1983. During his studies, he trained with the Marines in the Platoon Leaders Class Program at the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia. Initially a teacher for five years, he transitioned to the Coast Guard Officer Candidate School, where he was commissioned as an Ensign after four months of training, serving for nearly 12 years.
Mr. Wegman's interest in environmental law was sparked during his service in the aftermath of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. He was selected for the prestigious Legal Education Program and attended New York Law School, where he graduated cum laude and served as an editor for the Law Review. Following law school, he served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Legal Division at MLC Atlantic and Atlantic Area commands in Norfolk and Portsmouth.
In the Coast Guard, Mr. Wegman defended sailors and marines in Administrative Discharge Boards, Boards of Inquiry, and Courts-Martial, and served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in Norfolk, prosecuting a range of cases. He left the Coast Guard in 2000 to enter private practice.
Mr. Wegman joined the esteemed law firm Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker in Manhattan, focusing on environmental site assessments and representing clients like the Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum in asbestos litigation. He also contributed to the New York treatise on environmental law.
For the past 15 years, Mr. Wegman has successfully managed his own firm, continuing to offer expert legal services in environmental law and beyond.
