About John De Massi
John De Massi brings extensive expertise to his legal practice, specializing in criminal law (trial and appeals), municipal law, residential and commercial real estate, zoning and planning, and wills and estates. Over his 39-year career, he has litigated in the Superior Court throughout New Jersey, the Federal District Court of New Jersey, and numerous municipal courts. Mr. De Massi has also argued cases before the Appellate Division and the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Prior to joining Schiller & Pittenger as of counsel in 2007, Mr. De Massi was a partner at Gasiorowski & De Massi. His public service record includes serving as the Roselle Municipal Attorney from 1998 to 2003. He also provided legal counsel to the Roselle Redevelopment Agency and the Urban Enterprise Zone until 2005. Earlier roles include attorney for the Roselle Board of Adjustment and public defender in five Union County municipalities.
Mr. De Massi began his legal career as a law clerk for Hon. Francis X. Crahay, J.A.D. He was then appointed as an Assistant Union County Prosecutor, serving from 1975 to 1982. During this time, he supervised the Homicide and Sex Crimes Unit and completed approximately 50 jury trials, including eight homicide cases.
Beyond his public sector contributions, Mr. De Massi served on the District XII Union County Fee Arbitration Committee and the District XII Ethics Committee, holding four-year terms on each. He currently holds the position of master at the Richard J. Hughes Inns of Court.
