What to record
- Medical: ER and urgent care, specialists, imaging, physical therapy, prescriptions and medical devices.
- Travel: mileage, parking and rides to appointments.
- Work: missed shifts, used sick or vacation days, and reduced hours. Try our lost wages calculator.
- Vehicle: repairs, towing, storage, rental car and diminished value appraisals.
- Household help you had to pay for because of your injuries.
Keep the receipts themselves, too. The tracker is a summary, not a replacement. Learn how these costs fit into a claim in how settlements work and medical bills and liens.
Frequently asked questions
›Why track accident expenses?
Economic damages (medical bills, prescriptions, travel to appointments, lost wages and repair costs) have to be proven. A dated list with receipts makes it much harder for an insurer to dispute or overlook a cost.
›Where is my data stored?
Only in your browser's local storage on this device. We never receive it. Export a CSV or print a copy if you want a backup or need to share it.
›Should I include costs my insurance already paid?
Yes. Record the full amount and what was reimbursed. Paid bills can still matter for your claim, and health insurers or PIP carriers may seek repayment from a settlement.
›What mileage rate should I use?
There is no single required rate for injury claims. Many people use a published standard mileage rate as a reasonable benchmark; set the rate you intend to claim in the tool.
›Does this tool track pain and suffering?
No. Non-economic damages aren't a list of receipts. Keep a short daily symptom journal instead. Our printable expense and symptom log has space for it.
