: Diagrams added to 27 guides and every state page
- Added original diagrams with worked numbers to eight guides, including how the four fault rules compare, the first 30 days after a crash, the two total loss tests and where a settlement goes. Each one has a separate layout for phones.
- Added charts built from our own state data, such as how many states allow 1 to 6 years to file and maps of the no pay, no play and total loss rules we have verified. They update automatically when we verify more states.
- Every state page now has a timeline of its filing and notice deadlines, drawn from the same verified data as the page.
: State pages reorganized, new guides and tools, printables and search
- Reorganized all 50 state pages so each rule appears once with its citation, added an "On this page" menu, and replaced FAQs that only repeated the table with practical examples.
- New guides: when a car is totaled, by state, crashes involving uninsured drivers, subrogation demand letters, tow and storage fees and car seat replacement. State-by-state tables list only rules we confirmed in an official source.
- New tools: the diminished value calculator and the tow and storage fee calculator, plus five new letter templates.
- Added printable versions of the glovebox card, a 30-day checklist and a blank information exchange form, site search, and our methodology page.
- Checked every outbound link and replaced or removed links that no longer work. Confirmed Georgia's uninsured motorist rule, Hawaii's PIP limit and Kentucky's PIP limit in the statutes; removed a few figures we could not confirm (for example Kentucky's tort threshold amount and an Indiana response period).
: Second review pass, new tools and guides
- Re-checked state facts against official statutes and regulations. Where a figure could not be confirmed (for example some government damage caps and report fees), we removed it and now link to the statute instead.
- Corrected the Hawaii minimum liability limits to 40/80/20 (effective January 1, 2026), the Texas PIP wording so it matches the statute and the New York fault rule (the 2026 change covers only no-fault personal injury suits).
- Added the insurance claim delay checker, total loss offer checker, car loan gap calculator and rental and loss-of-use calculator.
- Added guides on insurers that don't respond, total loss and the appraisal clause, being sued after a crash, settlement releases and disputing a fault decision, plus four letter templates.
- Replaced dead links to the Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and Rhode Island insurance departments.
: Cookie policy and consent settings
- Published a cookie policy listing each advertising and consent cookie, and added a "Privacy and cookie settings" link to every page for visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland.
- Refreshed the site design.
: Site rebuilt; lawyer directory removed
- Earlier versions of this site included a lawyer directory compiled from third-party sources. We removed it because we could not verify its accuracy, and replaced it with links to each state's official lawyer license search and bar referral service.
- Published state law pages for all 50 states with citations, the first set of calculators, guides and letter templates, and our editorial policy.
